May 25, 1999, 18:16:00 hours - The Big One That Didn't Quite Get Away

The Outbound Assault Alert siren brought the squad to the briefing room, where Commander LUEshi was virtually glowing with excitement.

"We got a big one, boys, and this one didn't quite get away. Some bad news, first...a second base has been confirmed in North America, south end of California. Good news is, we intercepted one of it's supply ships. By sheer luck, Interceptor 1 was patrolling that area, and while an Interceptor normally can't keep up with a supply ship, the damn thing nearly ran into us. Plasma cannons brought it down over New Mexico. You know what a supply ship means, right? Supplies. That means Elerium. Get out there and get it."

The Skyranger touched down, spurring the team into motion. Mokujin, as usual, was first to touch ground, and as usual, a blast from his laser pistol quickly fried a sectoid. Another of the things had the unfortunate luck to peek out of a second story barn window just as Zolthag was peering at it from the ground, a mistake that proved fatal. Shadowzero313 drilled one trying to hide in an orchard, and a blast from Grammar took out another trying to hide in a nearby storage shed. Child of Asuka led the attack on the huge craft, exchanging shots with a sectoid just outside of the main accessway. He came away grunting with pain over a minor wound, but the Sectoid fled into the ship. Shadowzero narrowly dodged a shot from an alien hiding amongst some outbuildings. Training took over for both Shadow and Child of Asuka...instead of pursuing their attackers, they tossed proximity grenades nearby, hoping to catch the things by surprise when they attacked again. Shadowzero's was blown to bits in the explosion, but by some miracle, the one that had attacked Child of Asuka survived the blast. Still, the thing couldn't see through the smoke, so it advanced cautiously...right into a laser blast.

Mensco and Child of Asuka assaulted the ship, Mensco quickly taking out one in an access lift and securing the second level. Child of Asuka picked his way cautiously through the third level of the ship, killing two Sectoids, when suddenly his head lit up with flashes of pain and confusion. Fighting them down, he continued through the ship, blasting a final Sectoid at the end of the corridor. Kicking the thing in disgust, he noticed a whine issue from the thing. "Looks like we got a live one, and from the looks of it, it's the leader of this little foray. I'm sure R&D would have a field day "asking" it some questions, wouldn't you, boys?" Unanimous approval ensued across the commlink, and the crew went home, one captive alien and a captured power source in tow.
